Hi all bought a lovely vampire tang arranged to collect on Sunday last after 3 weeks in at settled in nicely at home swimming around and feeding well Tuesday morning couldn't see him fund him today hiding in a dark corner at the back of the tank seems very pale could this be down to shock as I have seen my squirrel fish chasing him on Sunday then he made friends with my regal tang and all seemed well till Tuesday morning when he his up and seems pale if it's shock or stress way is the best thing to do ? Thanks for any advice.

I am sorry to hear this. Sadly theres very little you can do , Tangs are very argumentative fish and seldom get on with each other. Depends how big the tank is too. As I have always been lucky with having big tanks I never get just one fish,it helps. There will be some bullying with any new fish .If theres one agressor I often  say  stick it in the sump for a few days .
I do hope things turn out well and I am sorry I cant be more positive, one thought, can you keep the lights off for say 24 hours ? Some times this works.
Do not mock the snake because it has no horns. For who is to say that one day it may become a dragon,as one just man may become an army...Water Margin.

I do hope it works out for you , you cant always tell whats going to happen and I have made some dreadful mistakes over the years. 24 hours shouldnt harm any corals you might have as when I buy online they have to sit in the dark for approx that amount if time.

I did actually have one myself years ago and seem to remember it being placid. Unlike the Sailfin Tangs I have had. I have no experience with Squirrel fish ,maybe some one here can give us both some insight into their temperaments.

Sump it for a bit to recover and try again in a few days. Or, move some rocks around to force new territories.

Hi there I turned lights. Off for 24 hours as suggested by carol also moved some live rock fingers crossed that seems to have worked the vampire is out and about now and has started feeding so looking good now but he still looks almost white but seems settled now .
