Hello strangers 😂,
Sorry not been around but work has gone absolutely nuts lately , by the time I get home , have dinner , say hello to the mrs and kick the dog I’ve fallen asleep ,
( don’t panic I don’t have a dog and love animals ) 😂
Anyway back to the thread ,
Always wanted a dory to (regal tang ) go with me clowns and just love the colour of them but read a lot about them and shied away because they can be problematic.
So after many years of deliberation and research and Friday was me birthday I treated myself and took the plunge ,
And here he/she is ,
Dave

Beautiful aren’t they. Especially when small, they’re like concentrated beauty.  *D

Make sure there’s plenty of Nori for it. Tangs eat veg like there’s no tomorrow. I used to get bulk packs of it from eBay cheap. Just generic nori, nothing aquatics specific or the price will hike. It’s the same stuff you wrap sushi in.

Guess time will tell ,

That's fine, bit big for a tang that size, I used to put two sheets folded in half and my tangs (Regal, Yellow, Naso, Sailfin) would all dive in and shred it. Doesn't matter how big it is. Regals aren't as confident as Yellow Tangs when it comes to eating Nori but it'll just be wary of it right now.

The only thing to be cautious of is a big sheet in a small clip is likely to come loose, especially if it's tugged on, then end up in a powerhead or clogging an overflow, etc. I'd start with smaller sheets, a playing card folded in half, clipped at the folded end and see how you go. When it's getting eaten entirely, increase the size. Obviously not to the point of overfeeding, but Tangs are predominantly veggies so Nori should be the staple of its diet. Doesn't mean they can't be healthy on other stuff and obviously they'll eat meaty foods too.

I do something very similar for my tangs. I cut all the nori in half with a pair of scissors, then stick it all in a zip-lock bag with the little silica pouches that normally come in the packets. I use one of the half sheets, and fold it in half, then half again, and stick it in the clip. That seems to stop it coming apart too much in the flow, and gives the tangs something to pull at.

Also, get some spirinula flake food. It's really good quality algae, but different to nori, so good to add to their diets. Most of my other fish also seem to eat this too. Not many bother with the nori.

Are you aware of how big the blue tangs get? 12 inches, so a pretty big fish. Obviously it'll take some years to get near that, but just so you're aware.
