Hi guys been having a bit of trouble with me leather , then discovered a hole and has been a bit downhill since , been about 4-5 weeks now ,
Some suggest it’s splitting ,
This is it now it looks different, is this the end or the beginning of regeneration,

It’s not looking great, but looks better than the before pictures. There does seem to be polyps at the edges, which aren’t there in the before pics. Cautiously I would say regeneration, but it make take some time to fully perk up

Still think its splitting to be honest with you, where is the hole in relation to the trunk of the coral? Also do you see a "fold" in the trunk at all. I will try and find pictures of when mine did this in my pico. It looked messy as hell and took forever for the full split to occur.

Any changes to ammonia that you have noticed at all?

One sure fire way to know if its dying is a sniff test but depends if its mounted/attached to the rocks. You'll know if its dying 100% and will mever forget that smell

Thanks:

Done the sniff test , (smells like chicken , lol )
It doesn’t smell bad or rotten so that’s one good sign ,
I’ve done a water test as you will see results ,
I’ve included as many angle pictures as possible that might help ,
The hole seems to be off centre ,

that looks like a split to me, especially if it smells like chicken. Dying leather soup is a smell all of its own.

Looking at the trunk and the area of the top of the toadstool i think its going to split into 3

Thanks:

I guess just let it do it’s thing then and wait and see what happens,

worse case scenario cut off the top of the leather leaving the stalk with sharp scissors or a knife, it'll regrow from the stalk. I'll have a frag once its done  lol

just let it do its thing, make sure the top has a decent amount of flow across it so nothing can settle, this will encourage it to shed and heal. Looks to me like you'll have a nice couple of frags from that one especially with the polyp extension in those last photo's.

Leathers are weird  lol

Essentially if the foot and stalk are healthy and not drooping it has every chance in the world of recovering and looking better than before. You might also notice on the new frags that they'll start budding and dropping small clones next

Thanks:
