Good news! The BBC has today announced that Top Gear will return to UK telly screens on Sunday June 28, with an extended episode to wrap up Series 22.
Featuring a pair of previously unseen films shot for the most recent series, plus studio links from Richard and James, the one-off will air on BBC Two at 8pm.
The first film sees Jeremy, Richard and James living the lifestyle of traditional classic car buffs, acquiring a Fiat 124 Spyder, Peugeot 304 Cabriolet and MGB GT before setting off an adventure incorporating brown beer, breakdowns (inevitably) and attending a car show where everything goes wrong.
If you're thinking ‘unlikely to end well', you're not alone. Have a flick through the pictures above for a flavour of what's in store.
In the second film, our intrepid trio attempt to become ‘lifestyle leisure enthusiasts' with the help of some very ratty old 4x4s.
Armed with a budget of just £250, the boys each purchase a high-mileage, low-quality SUV - Clarkson a Vauxhall Frontera, Hammond a Jeep Cherokee and May a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin - before embarking on a series of gruelling challenges, including a battle with the Stig's Leisure Activity Cousin, which climaxes with a race that has a terrifying penalty for the person who loses.

Chris Evans to be new Top Gear presenter - BBC News

Chris Evans to be new Top Gear presenter

Chris Evans is known to be passionate about cars  TV and radio presenter Chris Evans will be the new Top Gear presenter, the BBC has announced.
Evans said he was "thrilled" to get the job, describing the motoring show as his "favourite programme of all time".
"I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward," he added.
He will replace Jeremy Clarkson, who was sacked after punching a producer while on location.
Evans, a car enthusiast, has signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new Top Gear line-up.
He said the programme was "created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless".
"When in fact of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success," he added.
Controller of BBC Two and BBC Four Kim Shillinglaw said: "I am so delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear.
"His knowledge of and passion for cars are well-known and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability, he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future.
"Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world.
"He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series. He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can't wait for him to get started."
Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and more information will be announced in due course.

Thanks:

Excellent, both posts. Looking forward to the 28th, as that preview released the other week looks excellent.

Chris being in the new line up makes me happy too, and apparently there's definitely going to be another car show with the original trio in it, as apparently a "name" has already been trademarked.

Que Sera, Sera.  :glad:

New line up won't be the same but should still be entertaining. I was right about Chris Evans then.

So if this is true, then it's Netflix, one of the others (sky possibly) or wait until 2017...

Just came here to post this link

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May sign for Amazon Prime - BBC News

Excellent news. Also new rumour of Jensen Button possibly a co-host of the new Chris Evans BBC Top Gear. I'd really like that. They can then sack of the stig. The Clarkson trio never professed to be great drivers, so whenever a car needed sending around the track, they had to bring out the stig, who never talked, so you missed out on a lot and only got to see it flying around the track. JB can obviously drive properly and talk about the car at the same time, it'd make a lot of sense IMO.

Chris Harris would be good too, if it was Evans, Button and Harris, I'd be well happy with that, but Button is only another rumour and I doubt Harris would even be approached, as good as he is, nobody (the mass public) even knows who he is..

So looks like it's all working out in our favour them as we'll get two car shows; that trio and their new fun show, and the new Top Gear however that ends up being.

Prime subscription is £70 per year, which is less than Netflix and also you get unlimited free nextday delivery on anything.

I think the new new top gear line up should have a guest driver every week from a motor sport background and see how people react to them and maybe use that reaction to get a full time third person for the series after!

having two car shows will be good though!
I might be back....

Yes, competition is a good thing.  Sounds like we could have two good shows to watch  :D

Hmm, might have to look into that.

Oops it's £79/year actually, but you get a free trial.

A colleague has it, and you get next day delivery on any order of any size for free. So he orders pretty much everything from amazon, as the delivery fee is no longer an issue.

Plus the video streaming service which Clarkson will be on, plus I'm not sure if the music service is in that too.

Sounds really good, if you'd use more than a couple of these services.

see I'm not sure with Jenson. Is he a presenter? Good driver obviously but to me comes across a bit wooden.
