Hi, Everyone

Since we started in 2013, we've been getting steady year on year growth of all numbers, members, threads, posts, views, etc.

This year has been a massive let down, with all numbers being down. I know more and more people are using Facebook groups, etc, but such a sudden decline isn't explainable by that.

What's happening? Any ideas or insight anyone has would be great.

Thanks.

I think this site is a sound friendly helpful site without any bitching but I think people probably prefer the likes of u r because there's always stuff for sale and bargains to be had as this is a expensive hobby . And as it's got so many members there's always lots of topics being discussed so keeps people interested. I suppose in some way we all need to try and ask more questions and give more input  . I do enjoy this site and would hate the thought of it stopping

Not just here mate, all forums (not just reefing) seem to be quieter.   Not sure if it's Facebook or something else.

There's no plans of knocking it on the head. I know UltimateReef is massive and so is TSB and others, but it's not gotten in the way of us growing at a fairly impressive rate, all the while they're also still growing at a faster pace...

It doesn't explain the sudden drop off in numbers this year.  :S

I joined last year and have always found everyone to be friendly and helpful. I mainly post questions a lot of the topics are interesting and I read them but not necessarily post because most of them I don't have the knowledge. I also don't do Facebook so somewhere like this is great for me

What about the lounge? We tried really hard to get the social banter side of it going, but the lounge seems to be the quietest board we've got recently!

I've changed the Lounge board to be visible by the public. It might encourage more people to join and get involved if they can see there's good nightlife here.

It was always hidden unless you're logged in, so that the forum seems more on-topic to search engines, but we get plenty of traffic from search engines, it's engagement we're struggling with right now so maybe that'll help...

With other forums closing down, loosing advertising, etc, we should find this one grows in popularity.

There was a dip in the summer last year, and I'd expect that as people take holidays.

Maybe it just possibly comes down to the time folks have to pic and post , most that are new to the forum and marine keeping post regularly but a lot seem to dwindle off as they progress no longer needing the same amount of input from others . Some recent pics and regular updates of tank threads would be nice to all those reading   :D , always nice to see how established tanks have progressed , as we do have a lot of registered users here after all .
Social media will have a fair uptake of both new and experienced as many are already members of these groups , many a forum has gone down to the likes of FB . Not being a social media user a forum is always an invaluable place for information for me .
From a comment made by LFS owner a couple of weeks back this time of year is generally quite quite for him on a trade perspective year on year as previously said probably with holidays and the like .

It's not the time of year. Look at the stats. The same time last year and the year before were far better. This year is less than half the numbers of last year at the same time.

I think it'd be good for us to have a Facebook community, rather than just a page. It can only help.
