Here's a cool thread, to break away from the LOL Thread, for things that aren't really, funny, but are certainly interesting.

People gather on forums, where they're generally surrounded by like-minded people, and so things that interest some, may well interest others, too.

Here's a pretty amazing one to kick off.

Here's Tsutomu Yamaguchi.

He was mentioned on the BBC in QI at some point, which caused controversy, as they made light of his "bad luck"...

For a man who after being hurt by a nuke, can get himself in work the next day (because let's face it, we'd take the day off if we had a bad dream about one) and then his work place happens to be in the other Japanese city which is to be bombed shortly after, AND he survived both, AND lived to a ripe old age many of us can only hope for (93)... Hats off to him...

I didn't see that episode of QI, but I can imagine how they would have messed about with it, probably led by Alan.

It is remarkable though.
I should really sort this out!!

Yeah, it was hardly Frankie Boyle, but the quip was just that if the bomb had hit him, it'd have probably bounced right off, hinting at how lucky he seemed to be. Just insensitive and a bit disrespectful. Any other channel would have been fine, but it's the Beeb after all, they can't offend anyone.

It probably was Alan, can't imagine it was Stephen Fry, although I've not seen it either. (or maybe a guest)

How do they take pictures of rock climbers?

A Latvian cargo plane wandered off course yesterday and so an RAF Typhoon was scrambled to go have a lil' chat...

The Typhoon had to clear the sound barrier to get the plane in good time and the sonic boom was heard all over the south east, Kent mainly.

Here's the Pilot's pretty chilling, cool calm matter of fact warning to the Latvian jumbo jet.

"I am instructed by her majesty's government of the United Kingdom, to warn you that if you do not respond immediately to my orders, you will be shot down.

I don't know, but maybe they're planning something while the world's attention is distracted by ISIS!
Either way, we're a small but mighty little country, so I hope we can live up to the reputation our forefathers built for us.

Oh, they've also said that Apple CEO Tim Cook (as he came out as Gay recently) shouldn't be allowed into Russia as he could bring Gonorrhoea!, Aids!, and Ebola! XD
