Our daughter was due to go on Brownie camp last month. All paid well in advance by January as requested/demanded by the leader, "Brown Owl"
A week before they were due to go, Brown Owl cancels the entire trip on the grounds of "Ill health" which appeared to be because she was stressing about organising transport/volunteers etc! So all the girls are let down.
We asked Brown Owl when we would get our £60 back to which she replied she didn't think the 'region' (those in charge of guides etc I guess) would give refunds as it was "non refundable after May"!
Sure enough when we chased it up she told us the 'region' have said it is not their 'policy' to give refunds!
The most annoying thing is that the camp she cancelled was to be on the 10th July......by the 17th July a week later we were rather surprised to receive an email informing us that she was "off to Zimbabwe tomorrow"!
A miraculous recovery Id say!
Does anyone know if there is legislation covering this type of transaction?

I would discuss the supply of services and goods act 1982. I would write to the head of region or whoever and say you are a man of principle and feel as though you have been unfairly parted of £60 due to something in which you had no control o, this is an infringement of the supply of services and goods act. For this reason you request a full refund of the £60 or tell them you. inform them the court costs for a claim under £300 will result in a £25 court fee which you will be including in the claim as well as any additional court costs should the issue requires a court hearing or should the judgement need to be enforced.

let me know if you want me to write you the letter. I have won many a discussion on money unfairly owed !!

Thanks:

Damn.

Whenever I've had issues like this, I've always used the moneysavingexpert forums. That place is packed with those types who know the ins and outs all consumer law and legislation, so I'd join there if you're not a member and ask them.

I am a member of the Legal Beagles forum which is very similar. I have already asked the question. I have been advised to speak to their head office in York.
