As above. Older child has i-Pad mini. Younger child (5) always wanting to 'borrow' it and play on "Talking Ben" dog and "Talking Tom" cat app which copies speech in a funny voice. He finds it hilarious! Also likes playing the games. Obviously he is too young for an i-pad and its far too complicated for him at unnecessary cost.
Can anyone recommend cheaper/simpler alternatives? Seen some cheaper tablets around 50-60 quid but they all have poor reviews....

Yeah my 5 yeah old has a cheap CnM ? Tablet as he always wanted my iPad 3 or her iPad mini.

It's the worst made piece of awful cheap crap in the world.

I really wish the Nook and the Nook HD http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1279555.htm#pdpFullProductInformation Was out when I got his. It's got a really high res screen, and runs android, so all normal android apps too. And has really good reviews.

There's a cbeebies app my 3 yr old loves, and she's just got hooked on her 5 yr old cousin's game - barbie "I can be".  There's also a Ben and holly game which has great reviews.  My littleun is a bit too young for it really, but she likes trying to do stuff.  Oh, and she loves youtube.  I just subscribed to a few good nursery rhymes channels and she's quickly learned how to access them, skip the adverts and happily sings along with her headset on (totally out of tune, but hilarious).

have you considered Tesco's Hudl ? pretty cheap and looks pretty good value for monety. Sadly no other tablet compares to an iPad. (personal opinion) but thats why it comes with the prices tag (not being Apple biased but everything in my house pc / phone wise has an apple logo on it)

Yeah nothing can come close to Apple's stuff quality wise, but you get what you pay for. It's a premium brand, just like Aston Martin.

Steve wants it for his sprig though, and I wouldn't give my iPad to my kids! A cheap-o one is ideal for kids. The Nook looks pretty rugged. I don't know if it comes with that big rubber surround like in the pictures.

my little girl has an iPad and we have those rugged cases. its pretty bulletproof to be honest. it has been to the apple shop once as the power button stopped working (pretty sure it was her fault) but they just replaced it for a new unit. to be fair i would have never bought her one but she just inherited y partners one and i then ended up my the missus a new one (hmm think i got done !!)
