Looking to upgrade my aquarium from Juwel 240 litre to a 500 litre. I don’t want Juwel again as there are too many restrictions for adaptations with the design. Which brands would you recommend and why?

No budget as such... my plan is once I’ve found the desired one I’ll work my backside off with overtime until I reach the cost goal. Then more work to purchase the equipment needed for that size.

I like RedSea, but admittedly have no other comparison. Find the glass and cabinet build of good quality!

I like the Red Sea range and will probably end up with one myself.

Also EA ReefPro look nice. The cabinet looks very sturdy and is available in more colours than the RedSea which might be helpful with SAF (spouse acceptance factor) if that's an issue  :glad:

One other option is having a custom one made,  I haven't seen him online for a bit but Tim ( @Asco1104 ) has a 6 footer made by Aquariums4life, his thread is worth a look!

You thought about going custom, that way you get exactly what you want, my last 3 have all been custom made by N&d Aquatics

I know my tank is old, but it was custom made back in 1996 with 10mm glass. If you were to buy off the shelf, you'd get something made to a price, so there's always a compromise somewhere.
Having said that, then there's the problem of finding a cabinet suitable to go under it.

I have a custom built tank ,sadly they ignored most of what I asked for  ,so we spent a considerable amount of time reconfiguring it.  :umhum: Never again .
Do not mock the snake because it has no horns. For who is to say that one day it may become a dragon,as one just man may become an army...Water Margin.

First I need to say it was well made , its just that one of the guys in the shop got carried away , plus he must have been colourblind as I asked for Rosewood and I got dark Mahogany.

Wharf Aquatics in Nottingham.

I just wanted a plain in out with a refugium . They built it so you couldnt remove the skimmer  once the sump was in the cabinet as an auto top up chamber had suddenly been installed , stuff I did want was not in the build.

Why didnt I just send it back? Well they had my money and it was rumoured they were going bust. There is no problem with quality  just that they did not follow the design . I blame the bloke in the shop ,not the bloke who owns the shop and built it.
