Common Name: Gorilla Crab , mud crab , pebble crab , rubble crab
Scientific ID: Xanthidae , Xanthid sp.
Good/Bad Bad

Description
The Xanthidae family of crab cover quite a few commonly found crabs that can hitchhike into our tanks through liverock and are not considered reef safe . When small they tend to pick on algae growing on the rocks but once they start growing they are able to predate on invertebrates , may eat corals , and may even try to nip at fish . They are also able to hollow out their caves within the rock using their powerful pincers and potentially weaken the structure of the rock piece .
They are generally identified by various things such as large blunt pincers , red eyes & hairy legs , with a beefier build compared to others found in our tanks . There are various colours and shapes with several still not properly described all under the 'Xanthid sp.' banner.

Thanks:
