Are you taking parameters regular?  Weekly waterchanges?  Dosing?

A.

Yeah, I’m testing every 3 days, I usually do 10% every Saturday, but I’ve done 20% for the last two weeks.  And I’m using an algae management chemical. Nothing seems to be helping. Then this morning I’ve got a few extra colours in my sandbed...

arrgghhh... whatever it is.. I need to figure it out. I'm going to take a sample to my LFS and let them test, just in case I'm missing something somewhere or I have a dodgy test kit  :S

Hi what are you current nitrate and phosphate readings and do you make your own water?

My nitrate is at 1.2ppm and phosphate is 0, but I’m wondering if that’s becUse the gha is taking it all.

I don’t make my own, as it’s so small a tank and 10% water change wouldn’t justify the setup. But I’ve also been testing the LFS water and that’s been fine too. I’m at a bit of a loss to be honest

Can you post a pic of the colour of your skimate and how much you collect over a week?

Are you testing fresh ro or mixed fresh salt water?

Tim

I’m changing, on average, every other day. Pic to follow....

And it’s fresh mixed salt.

What’s your nitrate and phosphate on the fresh salt mix?

I would turn it down a bit, the colour your aiming for is a tea sort of colour, that looks a bit thin.

You might be skimming the bacteria out too quickly.

Pull as much of it of the rock as you can too.

Your po4 is too low too, sounds silly but feed a bit more, for the nopox to work you need both nitrate and phosphate in the water.

How much nopox are you dosing each day?

Cheers mate,

I've turned it down slightly so hopefully that might help. The unit I have is (apparently) notoriously hard to dial in.

I can't remember the results off the top of my head for the mix I'm buying but I'll check on Saturday when I get more.

I have reduced the amount I'm feeding as I thought I might be putting too much in there, and I tried shifting to a flake food rather than frozen for a week to see if that helped any.

I'm adding 1.5ml per day,
