Was about 1.5cm

That's a small gap for a fish to get though.....I didn't know they were climbers!

Why siporax? Does it not only filter via aerobic bacteria?  ,we have used this in cannisters and sumps in freshwater tanks .

Just googled it and it does claim that it does grow di nitrifying bacteria as well  , never had that effect for us but i hope it does for you

It will grow anaerobic Carol, but not as much as other filter media would've.

If used correctly and placed in sump where it won't collect detritus it works just as good as live rock apparently, will write up how and why when I feel better and get around to sticking it in sump

Right a little update, added siporax about 10days ago, everything seems good, I have been using all red sea test kits and salt, even though I was a bit weary, I have had a lot of help from Red sea Kev( I'm sure some of you would have seen him on other forums)on dosing no pox as couldn't quite get my head around it
Have just carried out test this is the third set of test since starting new tank up the results are
No3-1ppm
Po4-0.02ppm( not using anything apart from no pox)
Ca-450
Mag-1360
Kh-12.6
I have carried out 1 water change a week ago, I was surprised my phosphate levels came down as the 1st test showed 0.27ppm and had read a lot of people had difficulty bringing it down, I feed frozen food at least 5 times a week along with live and flake. But I had a good old Google and read some interesting articles about once you get bacteria built up it levels gradually fall into place, it's still early days so will see if levels stay stable, I will stick some up to date pics up later

Just a little update, been running siporax for a few of weeks now.
I made some cages to keep them in,to keep clean, I have put enough in for 600litres even though my tank is around 400 after displacement, I have also been dosing nopox since setting this tank up. Currently my test results are
No3-2ppm
Po4-0.02ppm
Ca-450
Mag-1450
Kh-12.6
As you can see the siporax is raised of the sump floor to keep any crap of it.

Cool. What did you male the cages from? Looks more flexible than egg crate.

I'm hoping to make something similar for my balls

And here's what theTanks looks like currently, The blue leds stopped working in one of the razor units, but Bcuk quickly sorted this out by sending 2 new led pads. My tunze top unit also pack up after 6 years service, replaced this wot the smart ato, which so far I am happy with, added a Mrs mandarin which is eating frozen, and finally picking up a pair of pipefish that are also.feeding on frozen, I'm adding copepod wlevery couple of days to build up population in tank.
