Hello,

I bought my first bit of coral at the weekend. Some blue candy cane coral heads which were a bit of a bargain to cut my teeth on!

I am very new to this so was hoping for a bit of advice regarding feeding and supplements. The guy I bought it from target fed them with some little Elos granules but Im not sure which exact ones? It is the only coral in my tank at the moment so I am assuming target feeding would be most effective?

Also what combined trace elements would you recommend?

I dont really want to spend millions initially on supplements so any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Toby

water changes will provide enough elements as its the only coral in the tank. Any small food will be find to feed it, Vitalis LPS pellets are good, or any small pellet fish food. Could use mysis as well.. Basically, anything you would feed your fish the corals would potentially eat.

Thank you, I am changing 25L a week? How often would you target feed?

What size tank is yours mate? I target feed once a week if I remember. But will use reef roids, soak them for 24 hours in the fridge in a plastic bottle then target feed all the corals. Hard and soft but the pellets r good for the candy canes. They have a bit of a bigger mouth

Thanks I had a similar question to this too!

The reef roids I have are powder form. So should I also be mixing up with tank water the leave overnight before feeding? At the moment I just mix tank water in a glass then add strait into the tank.

100l tank 3 softies and 1 x4cm sps coral (20l week water change). - do I even need to feed?

Ta

Possibly not but as long as u don't go mad every day then once a week will benefit the corals even if u don't have many. I leave it 24 hours in the fridge everytime I open it I'll give it a little stir keep it mixed up and then depending on how lazy I'm feeling I'll either target feed or just chuck it in. I do a mix of goniopowder, reef roids and vitalis sps food

I just put a pinch of it straight into a high flow section.  I'd say no more than once a week for ReefRoids - it's essentially just powdered flake, which is going to breakdown quicker than most foods, and possibly cause a spike.  A little bit now and again to add variety is how I use it.
