Hi All,

Maybe an amateur question, bearing in mind all previous lights have been pre set Fluval light bars..

I picked up a Maxspect R420R 160w at weekend for £40 of someone on an online forum looked in good condition, I’ve placed it on tank and my soft corals are thriving I can honestly notice the difference in two days! So far so good!!

Question, I’ve become paranoid as although all seems to be working fine on pre set present 1 I can only really see blue and white when looking directly at light pads, though I’ve seen some pictures with Red being visible??

Is this something I should be concerned about? Should Red clearly be visible at some point during the cycle?

I can’t lie it’s fantastic, my softies have exploded under it, where as growth and size appeared somewhat held back by Fluval Lightbars..

I just got paranoid as I’ve seen photos with what appears to be reds showing and thought I’ve only ever seen blue and white.

I suppose it’s the age old if it ain’t broke don’t fix it line!

@A1 Yeah there's only blue and warm white LEDs. I don't recall any reds at all. I could be wrong though. You adjust the colour balance by changing the ratio of warm white (containing a lot of red spectrum, hence warm white) and the blue lights.

I've a semi knackered one in the loft... I could take a pic of the LED pads themselves, as the lens cover is off it if you'd like? The LEDs have tiny labels like W and B next to them.

Thanks Mike, don’t go out your way with that photo..

I’ve kind of satisfied myself they are fine, really appreciate the response.. so red spectrum via white light

Will a reduction in light intensity assist in reducing the growth of Green hair algae?
