Just an update on the lighting , I had the lights on the tank turned off for the better part of a year there were only 4 fish LR a DSB and no corals , a month before I bought the lights I put the old Boyu 3x150w 10K halides on the tank as i was planning to bark it up again.
Most likely as a result of unused nutrients over that period I got a fair dose of nuisance algae and cyano. I had accumulated about 50ppm of nitrate tho phosphate was undetectable .
Soon after I started to use the lights i noticed that there was a dieback of the algae and the cyano , the tank as the lights were increased went thru a mini cycle judging from the colour of the algae on the sand bed. More bubbles became apparent thru the sand bed which was basicaly dormant .
There is no more nuisance algae and the sand bed is more or less clean , no cyano anywhere . The rocks look better than i think ive ever seen them .
To me this would indicate that the lights are of the correct spectrum and I am very pleased with them . Right now I am struggling to get the tank stable level wise , there are some bigger swings than i would like in Cal and Mag , its just learning what I need to put in the tank every day .
So once the tank is stable I will start again to introduce some corals , i had a bit of a cock up on the pump front as I put the pumps on ELSE , thought Oooo this is good walked away and 4 hours later id got the heads ripped off the Euphyllia , my fault entirely . So its back to one on low blow and the other on wave but not at full power .
And yes I can remember commenting that I did not think the pumps were very powerful when I had nothing in the tank lmao ...........
