Hi,

Have had my tank for around a year now and have noticed a black/grey Jelly looking growth starting to come out from under one of my rocks. Whatever it has been growing under there and covers quite a portion of the underside of the rock. Not sure if I should be worried and was hoping you could help me identify it.

I have something similar growing in the crevice of the second picture and I was wondering if it's the same thing?

Thanks for your help.

Most sponges grow out of direct light.  So long as it's not creeping over into the light, and starting to smother things, it's probably safe.  Chicken liver looks smooth, dark/black, but grows in the light, and smothers everything.  I have some black sponge, smooth, but stays on the undersides of the rocks.

Thanks for your help everyone.

It's def on the underside and it doesn't seem to have the holes that I see in the chicken Liver sponge.

It's on my favourite piece of rock with lots of Coraline Algae so might leave it for a bit but remove if it grows into the light.
