How to wire an STC1000 temperature controller with 2 heaters

I couldn't find anywhere that showed how to wire two heaters into an STC1000, so I thought I'd share how I did mine.

Along with a drill, these are the tools I used:

I used the stc1000, a plastic box, two sockets, one plug, a connector block and some spare wire.

I cut a hole in the box, slid the stc1000 in, and used the orange clips to hold it in place

I drilled 3 holes for the wires that go to the plug and sockets, and a smaller one for the probe

I used this wiring diagram, ignoring the cooler bit, as I don't have one, and I decided to use two separate sockets for two heaters, so I could potentially spread then further apart in the sump...not sure I needed to do this. Could have been one double socket instead.

I added some cable ties to stop the wires being pulled out by accident, then put the lid on.

Thanks for that @HK_Fuey . Did you know that if you are not using your cooling output, you can use it to generate an alarm if your temperature goes too high?
You achieve this by linking one side of the sensor to one cooling terminal (link terminal 3 to terminal 7) and the other side of the sensor to the other cooling terminal (link terminal 4 to terminal 8).
In the case of the temperature going higher than the setpoint plus half of the differential setting (ie the point where the cooling would normally energise), the sensor will be linked (short circuited) by the cooling relay and this will generate an alarm.
Hope that makes sense.
Ps shorting the sensor will not damage the unit in any way it just momentarily gives an out of range reading hence the alarm. :wink:

That's clever. So you're using the fact the STC will engage the usually open "cooling" relay, which shorts out the sensor, triggering an alarm... That's neat.

It's a neat workaround if not using the cooling circuit as the STC's built in buzzer isn't usable for out of range, only sensor faults (like shorts, your trick exploits).

@HK_Fuey Why did you make it with two separate lines for heaters? You can get those double sockets, so only ran one hot wire to the double socket?

Mine is a bit different, I've got one plug on each, like yours, but one is hot, one is cool. My fans on the cool side, tit heater on the hot side. I suppose I could use a double plug if I wanted two heaters.
