Hey, today I've noticed that the jewel of my tank, my awesome gold torch is in a bit of trouble.

2-3 of the 8 heads seem to be effected. I'm seeing some ressesion from the base and limp and deflated tentacles.
Other heads are fine, no sign of bugs or brown jelly I think (fingers crossed)

Parameters are fine, apart from my alk that's been bouncing around from 8-10 whilst I get the dosing dialed in.

Performing a small water change shortly.

I've been playing around with flow over the last week, trying to direct more towards my acros as I've noticed localised ressesion on a few braches that I've put down to alk/flow.

I've included the best photo I could manage. Its difficult because of my camera.

Any advice welcome. I dont want to lose my best coral!  :(
Thanks, Ollie.

What is your water change schedule? Maybe some mineral deficiency is making it unhappy...

Even if there's no "brown jelly", a dip in some coral dip/iodine might be worth a go anyway.

I change at least 25l a week.
So 10% I believe.

Since my original post, whatever it was spread to the other heads.
I took extreme action and fragged all but the healthiest head then  placed it in my frag tank.
It perked up a little this afternoon, then looked a little worse before lights out.

Will see how it goes, hopefully I can save "the colony" but I've come to terms with loosing my best coral...

Reef keeping can be harsh sometimes :(

Well the "frag" took a turn for the worse
Clouded the frag tank, and has put the condy nem that I was temporarily living there in danger.

Took the frag out and performed a water change. FML...

Cheers guys

@mav469 I'll let things calm down for a little bit. I need to get some frag plugs too.

I just wish I knew what killed the torch...

To quote you, I guess it could have been the Alk bouncing, or the change of flow.  Did it end up with more flow, or less flow?  I know too much can bash them about, casuing tissue damage.  I guess too little and it won't get the same amount of gas exchnge/food/etc.

The torch was never thrashing around, I have another torch, this one is green. Its in significantly higher flow and is lower in the tank. I guess it received lower flow after my alterations. Its just strange to me that it seemed to spread from head to head yet I couldn't see any brown jelly.
The deflated tenticals seemed to be the most notable issue, like a straw sucked shut...
