They sure do

Ive added 2 peppermint shrimp today. Ive got a bit of a apista problem in my DT (rock from a "friend" was riddled with it)
So Ive placed the peppermints in with a rock with a few bits on to see if they take a shine to it. I'm not feeding this frag tank atm so hopefully they are hungry!

Once "trained" they can go to work in the DT. Fingers crossed.

Sometimes rock from even excellent reefers can have Aiptasia as sometimes they're on the "dark side" of the rock and as soon as they move the rock to get it out (to give it to you) they all shrivel up and as they're not lit, they're transparent, so can't be seen.

Good luck with the peps! Are they definitely true peppermint shrimp?

It is! I'm giving them a little more time then they can go to work in my main tank.

As for the rock, I got it for free so can't be too fussy, plus one of the bits is encrusted with some cool sps? Its like a furry carpet.  any chance of an I'd?

Ooh, nice. It looks like a Pavona Coral, but is yours encrusting? I thought Pavona branches, rather than encrusts.  :embarrassed:

Yeah its quite strange. Maybe it could be some sort of furry sponge. Ive just spotted a small similar bit on a piece of rock Ive had for ages. Its only doubled in size in a year I would say. So slow growing.
Another angle to consider is maybe its not ideal as its encrusting over the rock so its blocking the holes for filtration.

Looks cool though

That's the argument against lots of coralline algae. But there's the masses of exposed bare rock underneath, between, round the back, etc. The top light faces surfaces are only a small-ish percentage of the total surface area.

Does it withdraw it's furriness at night?

Good point, plus my rock is elevated on egg crate now so I have almost 360 rock exposure

It does withdraw at night so maybe not a sponge??

It is a leafy pavona, I think the reason it hasn't branched is because there wasn't alot of flow in the tank it came from, obviously it'll base out, but it should have branched,....... or..... another possiblitiy is that it was growing up the side of the rock, and now the rock is your tank it's in a different position, have you seen it under blues yet?
I should really sort this out!!

Just an update on the frag tank. Its all going well. I'm going shopping tomorrow so am pleased I have a holding area for new stock.

Ive made a few frags of the softies Ive been removing from my DT. A friend has a fairly new tank so some will be heading his way to get him going.

Good news. Enjoy the shopping

I have those same Zoas, the green ones with orange in the middle.

You'll have to add joining this forum in as a condition when you give your mate the softies.
