Actually considering one of these now. http://www.fastlight.co.uk/acatalog/Micmol_Aqua_Mini_Pendant.html

That would light the side with the frags really well I think... Would look a lot neater than anything I could create.

The hood you've made works. That LED unit is all show and no go. I may use CREE LEDs but at only 25w max power consumption, across 9 LEDs, is only 2.5w each.

It might illuminate but I'd doubt you'd get much growth or even sustain SPS under it...

Ah, cheers Mike. Save me some cash

I may put the work in to the hood then. This is meant to be a very low cost set-up. If you hadn't guessed so I will continue on that path. Cheers.

Is the hood reflective on the bottom side?

You could use foil tape, once applied, you can polish it with aluminium polish and get it near-mirror finished. Salt spray will corrode it, but if you can keep that to a minimum it'll be ideal.

Cheers for the tip.
Looks like it won't be required now as I have 4 tmc aquaray 600 reef white strips on the way. Got them for a great price. I know they aren't ideal but hopefully the 4 will make up for that.

Also got some live rock for it today. 6.5kg for £19.50 as pets at home are now up to a 75% discount clearing their marine stuff livestock.

So I should get the lights tomorrow

Awesome.

4 aquaray strips is several times brighter than 4 T5 tubes btw. And more focused, efficient, etc. so good buy. :D

Cool. Especially for what they cost

Do you think they will be effective mounted up on the cabinet?
That would keep the Mrs happy...

(Will these be your first proper LEDs?) if so you'll never go back to the archaic everything else. (Halides, T5s)

No Ive got the AI sol blue on my cube. Love led!
Thats why I snapped these up. I know they aren't as good as ai LEDs but I like how low maintenance LEDs are. They will be so much neater than the t5's I was making do with and I dont have to worry about replacing bulbs etc.
Sorry If my mounting question was noobish, its just that I was trying to draw on your previous tmc experience

Lights are in! Can only fit 3 at the moment, need to move an old light unit out of the way to fit the other, if required.

Alternatively could I run the 2 reef blue strips and one 14k on this tank, then use the other 14k for Cheeto in the sump of my main tank?

Really pleased with the clean look now, still need to tidy everything up.

2 blue strips and one white won't get as much growth. As blue is mainly for showing colours, doesn't aide growth much.

Also, 14k isn't ideal for chaeto either, 7200k is about ideal.

If you need a new light for your chaeto, I'd recommend the one I bought (the white one, not the blue/red)

Stick it above your main tank, for a bit of extra glow from your fluorescent corals?

Maybe, I'm pretty pleased with the glow from my ai sols.

Will pop it above today and see if it improves things.
