Guys

Im looking to start building up a larger tank pretty soon.  My little 20G nano just feels a bit too small these days ;)

Seems like a good idea to put egg crate under the live rock.  Is this best practise?  If so do you guys find that it becomes visible as the sand shifts?  I was only planning on having a 2-3cm sand bed.

I used egg crate on my first tank but I didn’t on my second tank, I don’t see any benefit using the to be honest.

Having read around, im kind of in agreement tbh.  Most people just see it as a way to trap crap.

Your better off flattening the bottom of the rocks ( not needed though ) and putting them straight on the glass, then put the sand around them :)

Saw a friend of mine making some stripes on bottom with aquarium grade silicone - in this way you wont put rocks directly on glass and dont have the issues with egg crates (debris trap, hard to clean sand, etc)
If I will start a tank from scratch, probably will use this silicone method;
Tank : Red Sea Reefer 350
Skimmer : Bubble Magus Curve 7
Light : AbyssWare OrionX-90
