Anyone made a reef vase-quarium?

Thinking of doing a jar/vase-quarium...something like this setup (pics courtesy of TheRope on nano-reef.com) but full of macroalgae.



Anyone tried something like this?  I was thinking of just using an airline for water movement and a tiny heater or maybe a heating propagator pad (like for growing tropical plants)
