It's the pectoral fin of a sailfin blenny. Although I don't know why its blue, they're normally black. I know it's that because it's about the only blenny that has that thick spine through the middle of the fin to give it extra strength for standing on, when the big sail is blowing it over.

Soo close Mike! I'm not going to give it to you though! cause this lil beauty is equally as striking but coloured differently. but it is a blenny and can be confused with the sailfin

Gulf signal blenny?

Never seen that before, that's beautiful. Up there with Mandarinfish, maybe more so!

Must be a type of sailfin blenny though? Maybe it's just any with the massive dorsal fin which have a spin in the middle of their pectoral fins then.?

I want one of those anyway. :D

I don't know I'd vote against winner stays on otherwise it'll make people reluctant to guess if they feel they've had a succession of wins, to give others a chance, also it'd mean the thread is halted while the challenger confirms/rejects the guesses.

Multiple challenges can be going on at once, people will just have to quote the challenge's name when guessing, or something.

Initially I thought winner would stay on, but what Mike has typed above sounds better!

They're all Centropyge Bispinosa/us. It's only their common name / nickname that changes, as they're the same fish, just distorted patterns.

This particular one is a "Fire Fin Coral Beauty".

Here's some other "designs".
