Hi everyone, im new to marine keeping and I knew from the start its not a cheap hobby! As much as I have and would like to support my local fish store im finding some things to be reasonably priced and others to be extortionate :|. I am now slowly adding fish and my next purchase is going to be a yellow tang, my lfs has small maybe medium sized yellow tangs at a cost of £65! :scared:

Does or has anybody purchased fish online? what site do you use? Not being able to see their holding tanks & inspect the fish for disease before purchase has me a little skeptical.

Well, there may not be any at all before long.  Hawaii have banned collection of ornamental fish altogether, so anything from over there is going to get rare, quickly.

BUT they have been bred in captivity so might not be a bad thing after all!

Although it hasn't stopped the price escalating , I notice a difference of around £25 for a small/medium yellow tang in only the space of six months , probably since they started talking about the proposed ban earlier in the year

Just to add , think flame Angeles were also taking a price hike on the back of the ban too

I managed to get lucky and found someone local selling a large yellow tang and a regal for £40 . Yellow tang is loving his new home as both where in a tank to small for them. The regal is currently squeezing into tiny crevasses in my live rock and hiding which I  presume is normal at the moment. He was swimming back and forth from end to end of my 5ft quickly with the yellow tang, enjoying himself I think as didn't seem related to stress. hopefully he will come out when he settles
