I know I'm not the first, and won't be the last to put a molly into a marine tank, but these guys are amazing.
I put them into my QT principally to act as canaries, hence them being black so any whitespots would be immediately visible.
What I didn't realise though is how prolific they were at removing algae. My QT has being going through the uglies, and was experiencing some brown dust-type algae on the floor of the QT.
Within an hour it had all gone.
I'm now thinking about some colourful versions for the DT.
Is it me, or do they look like Pingu talking (for those old enough to remember) when they peck at the algae?
The only down side is they do seem to defecate a lot, especiaslly as I hadn't seen any come from the clowns, but these little chaps can crap for England

As you mentioned have been done before , also guppys have been successfully added to marine , and yes they are swimming crap machines . If you do add them to main tank make sure you got plenty of cuc in the tank , they also breed like flies so be careful .

As in how many I put into tank?
Two, out of two. I acclimated then over 4 hours.
I'm thinking now about only one colourful male sail fin in the DT. O If only because of the crapping they do

Nice, that's a good success rate! Have you seen them eating any hair algae?

No, but in fairness, I don't have any. They are voracious eaters though. Although I shouldn't give them too much, they love brine shrimp

Now that I know a bit more about them, I'm not sure I'd want any more than one colourful male in the DT, somehow they don't look right in a marine DT.
I would say however, that unlike their freshwater counterparts, they do behave much like marine fish in that they are constantly on the move. That may be because they are found naturally in coastal waters, so could be regarded as a marine fish in a way.
