Tonight Sir you have brought great joy and happiness to my Lord Horse . He was doing more Oh Yes than a 1980's porn movie  :O

(Horse is his nickname at work, an improvement on Bomber, which was his yoof full one)

Well you had better tell Lord Horse that I am a volunteer driver on the Ffestiniog Railway, and also a part-owner of a Chinese steam locomotive built in 1988.

Thanks :) I have heard of the Selsey Tram - it was part of the Colonel Stephens empire that also included the Ffestiniog at one stage. Fascinating :)

Realy, I never knew that. Bob used to talk now and then about it ,of course by the time I moved there the station was gone as was the track.
I seem to remember the day of the crash the driver died?

Yes it would be interesting,Some one wrote a small history of Selsey years ago and there was a couple of photos of said train. Ive googled it a bit but cant find much.

I take it the Dymchurch railway being a tiny one wasnt anything to do with the same group?

Nope. The 'Colonel Stephens' Empire included the following:

Ashover Light Railway
Bere Alston and Calstock Light Railway
Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway
East Kent Railway (now preserved)
Edge Hill Light Railway
Festiniog Railway (now preserved)
Hundred of Manhood and Selsey Tramway
North Devon and Cornwall Junction Light Railway
Paddock Wood and Hawkhurst Railway
Rother Valley Railway (now preserved as K&ESR)
Rye and Camber Tramway
Sheppey Light Railway
Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Light Railway
Snailbeach and District Light Railway
Welsh Highland Railway (now preserved)
Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Light Railway

ISBN 0-7110-2628-9 has brief descriptions and pictures of all of these. I've got a copy on the shelf just above my Rio Oiapoque tank...

The Selsey tram derailment was on 3 September 1923 and killed the fireman, injured the driver. There's a photo in the book (7 pages and 17 photos on the Selsey Tram in total). The line closed in 1935.
