Hey,
I've some money sitting in my PayPal, burning a hole.
My Skimmer went nuts last night for no apparent reason, it's done this a couple of other times in the past year or so.
It's a marine sources rcd 850. It didn't cost me a lot, works well but isn't that easy to fine tune and obviously consistency is key.

Anyone have any thoughts on a replacement? 250l system volume currently, will be upgrading in the not so distant future to a 350l so needs to have some headroom.

Running Zeovit, Plenty of sump space.
DC pumps seem interesting though relatively "new"
Bubble magus have just brought out some DC pumped models.

Open to second hand in order to jump up the manufacture list.
Budget around £200-250

Interested to hear your thoughts.

There's a Deltec SC1455 on classifieds on UR if that's any good?

I recommend BM.  Never had anything else to compare, but it's been rock solid for 3 years now.

Cool. Thanks HK, never had one before. They are by far the most common around. Their new DC versions can only be an improvement right?

I run the Deltec SC1456 on mine and in my opinion an awesome skimmer they can be had for around £300 now so maybe worth upping the budget a tiny bit :)

The 1455 is basically the same skimmer apart from the 1456 has an adjustable pump and feed mode button

Looks like a fight between those two suggestions then really.

£30 between the two.
Chinese innovation or German heritage.

Tough choice.

Skimmers are a minefield!

I have in the past had Tunze and Aqua medic skimmers, all good but pricey (i presume they still are)
For my new tank i have the BM Curve 5, very reasonable price and seems to be working a treat! I have hardly any bio load yet but happy with what it has removed in a week. Fairly easy to set up compared to the old Aqua medic ones too.
