Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to acquire one of the these free of charge, I only have a 15 gallon tank which I know this filter is capable of way larger capacity, but would there be any harm in using this?

An external filter isn't required for a marine tank , the rock that goes in the tank is porous and the bacteria that complete the nitrogen cycle live within and on the rock .
Some use an external filter with no sponges etc for phosphate remover or carbon , but requires more maintenance than if these were used in reactors .

But since I can get this for free would it not be worth using aswell? Just wanted to make sure the flow wasn’t to hard for my tank, looking to keep clown fish, softies and an anemone eventually

The flow would need restricting to the point it’d strain the impeller anyway.

As said, external filters aren’t often used on marine tanks.

Get it for free and sell it or store it.  I wouldn’t put it on the tank.

I second that. On minimum power its 10 times stronger than you need.

For £450 new, you could sell that and it would pay for some equipment.

Sorry but you can't use the eheim thermo filters with seawater anyway  :umhum:
