were clownfish popular before nemo?

hello! this crossed my mind, and i havent been long enough in the hobby to know the answer. were clownfish already popular and readily available before Finding Nemo came to be? 🤔

The answer is yes ,
The film did help boost sales and awareness of them but you'll find that clowns were always readily available and one of the most popular marine fish because of their compatibility with some  anemone,it's the pictures and sea life documentaries on t.v that started it all off
