Hiya
I’ve got my tank set up and it’s currently cycling. However I’ve noticed in the filter compartment there’s space for some additional media or product of some kind. See photo below- I’ve circled the two sections of space. One is below the existing filter media, the other is below the skimmer.

Does any one have any suggestions what I could buy to put in here to aid my filtration? Ideally that won’t break the bank.
I’d be particularly interested in anything that has a good success rate of reducing nitrates.
Thank you!

You could put some sort of nitrate reactor media in there, activated carbon and/or phosphate media.  I've just set up my first marine tank and the store strongly recommended a reactor with phosphate - I think the media was about 17 quid from memory

Thanks Nathan that’s really helpful! Do you have the brand name of the reactor so I can have a google so I know what I’m looking for?

The phosphate media was JBL PhosEx Ultra.  It comes with a sock that you pour it into and then drop it into the filter/reactor chamber etc.  Just make sure you rinse it well first to get all the dust out of it....

Thanks:
