I think it's excellent.  The only thing that needs improving is the joining of the units, as they will need propping up in the middle.

Yes, preset 2.  I'll probably put my own settings in at some point, but not sure what yet.  What do you use?

There's a 4 pod 200W unit in development.

My settings? I think from memory,

13:30 1%b 0%w
15:30 100%b 75%w
20:30 100%b 65%w
23:30 1%b 0%w

You get what you pay for...

Steve's Vertex is a Rolls Royce compared to the Bently that is the maxspect.

Those other cheap ones are ford, etc, terrible analogy but it is 2 am :)

Not necessarily it would seem.
The characters have disappeared from the control panel end of my Vertex Illumina. Some of the connection pins on the display and the interconnecting ribbon cable appear green.
I contacted the Vertex Aquaristic support department, sent some photos and they told me that it looks like 'burning' of the contacts, which they suspect is due to humidity.......and guess what?
The 2 years Vertex warranty does not cover damage caused by humidity/salt/water! This is a light that is designed to fit on Vertex's own brackets at 3" above a fish tank..and it's not covered for water damage!
So they kindly sent me an invoice for €320 payable in advance of issuing any parts!!!
So much for quality.

Wow, that's really shitty of them.

When you, lets face it, don't need to spend that kind of money on lights. (just like, let's face it, you don't need to spend that much money on a car as per my crap analogy), there's cheaper lights which will give as good results, but you went high end and they're treating you like that?! Do they not realise that for anything other than the cheapest on the market, reputation is everything... also, reef keeping is a very sociable hobby and most reefers are on forums...

Aside from damage to their reputation, I couldn't run a company like that. I'd fix it FOC on morality alone...

EDIT: You could always leave them a bad review on their FB page... https://www.facebook.com/VertexAquaristikGmbH

I think they are more into profits than into their customers.

I quite like the Razors.....well the look of them anyway! There's a few people I know people that have dumped the Razors looks for the much cheaper IT's etc. as they seem to get better growth out of them. It's like Mayo's tank.....I don't know him but from what I have seen and read he had fantastic corals compared to others on more expensive kit.

Yes the IT's look like a BIG BRICK in comparison but they seem to work just as well if not better than the Razors.

And as for your analogy of cheap Fords.....mine wasn't a cheap Ford as it was the top of the range one! You can shove your BMW's and Mercs where the sun don't shine, but give me an Audi and I'll drop my love of Fords in an instant!

Well that isn't a recipe for continued success now is it...

Yeah Mayo had/has stunning corals. Did you see him/his feature in MH magazine? The tank that was featured is now in my kitchen, as he swapped for a bigger rimless braceless tank.

Audi seem to be the German of choice for all Ford fans. It must come from the ford rally days, and then the quattro relation. Ford's own marketing and market placement aims them at the lower end of the market, there's no escaping that. That's why I used them in the analogy, I wasn't being defamatory.

I'm not on Facebook so I dont think I am able to leave a review.
I emailed the original supplier and this was his reply (after chasing him twice)....

Hi steve I couldn't speak to Jamie but spoke to anothe guy at vertex think it was same one who's been emailing you
He has said basically the same to me as he did to you
He can send new parts and charge you and then refund once old parts are returned if they are faulty
Or you can return old parts first and if found to be faulty then they will replace them
As the unit is out of the years retailer warranty I have to take their advise on this and do what they ask of me
I explained your concerns about it being close to the tank and no adequate seal but their response was it needs to be kept clean to stop salt creep getting into it
Something which I or them can't know for sure has happened properly.

So basically the "2 year warranty" ain't worth sh1t!
I've a good mind to go down the legal route on this one. It doesn't reflect well on Vertex Aquaristic does it. At least when the Maxspect Razors have been going wrong they have been replaced.
£1700 and its a pile of sh1t that can't deal with humid conditions.
Rather ridiculous when you consider I have perspex and glass covers over my tank also.

How much?

You can PM me what you want to put on their wall Steve and I'll gladly do it....but when I've done in the past other companies just seem delete it and pretend it's never been there in the first place.

Very naughty of them....so what's the point of the 2 year warranty, does that just cover the parts then and you have to pay labour?

Thanks:

Hi. Yes exactly. I fell for their marketing spiel and the fact that it was advertised with the 2 years warranty.
There were several posts on the dark side (UR) stating how great their customer service is and how they have even replaced things Free of Charge for items which were even out of warranty.
I thought I was getting a first class product of first class Quality with 1st class customer support.

I'm not sure what the warranty covers to be honest as they want to charge me for the parts which I would be fitting myself as I cannot be without the light.

If you were to get other lights I would say the IT's but they are all I've had so don't know any difference really. The Razors look really nice but it seems that taht's as far as they go eventually.

There's a CJ that lives not far from me and I know he said that he would never have them again as they are overpriced and crap for the monies.....not long ago he upgraded to an 8x2x2 and put some new razors with a surround sound system for lightening with added thunder.  :embarrassed:

I have a razor and it's doing a good job so far. Compared it to my t5s at least. I would recommend it but again don't have another good led to compare it to. :)
