Assuming you mean other LEDs, not other lighting units in general?

There's several, but lots are either very expensive, or not very pretty, or build quality is lacking. The Maxspect R420Rs are so popular because they combine all 3 of the above, they're attractive, very well made, and are priced just right.

The AquaRay strips look awful and aren't programmable, and need awkward un-elegant mounting, other ones that are cheaper are the typical unknown cheap chinese rubbish. Then there's more expensive units like the Vertex Illumina and Pacific Sun.

There is this, which is perfect full width for your tank, and is cheaper than two razors, but I don't know much else about it. It might suffer lack of front to back spread though, but if your reef-scape is at the back, built up, then maybe you'd just have the light 2/3rds to the back?...

I'm gonna give one of the aqua led starlight 3 a go, just to see.
seems to have good features and LEDs too. but there aren't alot of reviews, you'd have to look at their FB page really. I'm not saying go for em but worth a look, they are quite slim. there is 20% off this month only, so only a couple of days left to take advantage, but I would contact them (by phone) and ask if the most up to date LED (crees) are in this batch or the next. he' mentioned there wll be an upgarde in LEDs but hasn't made it clear when.

I on a personal note will have two aquaphotonix "strips" going for sale soon (PLUG!!!) one 14K the other 20K (couldn't make my mind up) the idea was to buy two, and then pick up a third, but the company ceased trading,  I've been running them a year with no probs, nice looking unit, no fans.

I should really sort this out!!

Thanks:

Ah, so one StarLight III at 120cm is the same price as one 160w razor, so you're getting it much cheaper than the razors and don't have the hassle of having to join two together, two powerpacks, etc.

Yup, summat like that! as for customer care and warranty replacement I couldn't comment, but he's a sponsor over on RC UK, so posting a question there wouldn't be a problem, and it's in his interest to answer.

I've got a 4x2x2.

I can recommend the vertex Illumina but it seems overpowered as well as overpriced. I've got my whites on 50% as I managed to fry my SPS!
I got a newsletter of Charterhouse Aquatics the other day. Arcadia have launched some LED fixtures. I'm not sure how good they are.

EDIT: I would no longer recommend the Vertex Illumina as it is definitely not worth the price. Mine failed at 19 months old. The warranty was worthless and customer support non existent. I am presently in the process of reclaiming my money back!

You get what you pay for...

Steve's Vertex is a Rolls Royce compared to the Bently that is the maxspect.

Those other cheap ones are ford, etc, terrible analogy but it is 2 am :)

I would agree. Nothing can touch it at the price. The only reason I didn't have them is because they need to strengthen the link bars for 2x 27" fittings as they bow in the middle. I actually bought two, tried them and sent them back!
If they could have been hung with just one wire at each end and the link bars in the middle I would have probably kept them but the dip in the middle was the deal breaker. Also at the height I had them I thought the grub screws for the mountings spoiled the sleek profile of the lights themselves too. It's a shame as I've seen one over a 29/30" Signature tank at Cockfields and the light/colour looks pretty good.
I am very happy with the sleek lines of the Vertex and the fact that it's all one fitting though and I do use all the gimmicks such as the sun rising/setting from one end to the other and clouds/lightning etc. I'm a big kid at heart lol

Order placed. Next day delivery, but I suspect that means Thursday at this time of night.  I'm away with work Thursday/Friday, back Friday night, so will hopefully have them waiting for me on my return.  Can't wait!

Loving the lights!  I had no control other than a timer before, and nowhere near as much blue available, so the green star polyps and zoos look amazing now.

Good isn't it. What did you think of the quality of the unit?

Have you got it on preset 2?
