Hi - looking to build up a ‘colony’ of Copepods. Can I put some Copepods in my sump, feed them, ‘house’ them in a copepod hotel and have enough to feed my tank periodically? If so What Copepods would I buy and what would I feed them please? Thanks
I tried this but couldn't get them to thrive down in the sump. Maybe not enough food?
What I did instead was just kept buying the normal 'marine copepods' you get in marine shops and adding them to the tank after dark when the fish were asleep. After a while there was enough to keep the population thriving and I do see the fish picking at them from time to time.
If you wanted to keep them as a more significant food source, then it might be easier to set up a copepod farm separate to the tank. Then you can dump in loads of phyto without worrying about raising nutrients in the tank.
On ebay you can get a strainers with the right micron size meshes attached which makes the process of harvesting copepods of the right size a lot easier/faster.
