In order to create an even more reliable, affordable and customizable light to fit a wider range of requirements, I decided to start developing a new version of Sapphire with some improvements. Here can find all development steps and tests which will bring this light on the market;
I invite you all to review the concept, to propose ideas of features and improvements of the light  etc.

Once light is released, all participants to those discussions will enter in a competition for a free Sapphire V2

Thanks for support

Finally, I have almost finalized the first version of the power board - to be used on cheaper versions of Sapphire - includes 4 channels + automatic fan control (independent of the controller). Will possibly be followed by another version with 6 channels for the most demanding customers;

It is small (100 x 50 mm) but can power more than 200W on LEDs

The design files look like this:

Here is the first draft of the LED board. Can use 19 LEDs, as a mix of Luxeon, Cree and Osram, customer can choose at order what type of LEDs prefer, etc;
This is the reason of "paralel positions" - same board capable to support wide variety of LEDs;

On "copper layer" view is visible how LEDs are connected, but also how large thermal pads are in order to provide maximum heat transfer;

Size of board is 150 x 100 mm

It looks very smart, what will the mounting options be? Also will it have a lunar feature? What will the 4 colour channels be?

Thanks,
for mountings will try to provide different options - directly on bridges I usually provide, goose-neck and a hanging option; In my opinion bridges offers the highest flexibility and stability (will come with details at that step of development)
Lunar feature comes directly from controller, as leds can be dimmed really low (0.25-0.50%) which is low enough and doesnt need dedicated lunar channel
For the colors on each channel I will come with some proposals, but also customers can ask for custom LEDs to be placed in order to meet all tastes - combining on same board different footprints from different manufacturers possibilities are endless;
As starting point channel 1 will be actin (mix of 450 nm blue + UVs), Ch 2 - whites, Ch 3 - 450 nm blue again (honestly I really think 2 to 1 ratio of deep-blue / white is what reef tanks should use); Channel 4 is for color enhancing where can be mixed regular blue, cyan, lime, ultra-red, etc

I always wanted a mount that would sit inside the pelmet, that I could sit on the glass braces, but without risk of it falling in.  It needs to be easy to slide back out the way, or lift off to one side (without the cables, etc. getting in the way).

Will this be modular, so you can bolt a few together for larger tanks, but just use one for a nano?

Finally, the long awaited driver boards have arrived - so can start assembly and testing.
If everything works well, I can continue to order parts :)

Sorry for quick and bad photos
